All of this talk about spring cleaning and summer temperatures might have you thinking about projects that you can get done during the summer months or as part of your staycation.. Or maybe you have spent hours planning for that remodel and just don't know where to start.. Might I make a suggestion... start with a budget - begin with the end in mind. Look no further - I have researched and searched the internet and here are some great tips for remodeling on a budget

Purge and Consign
Need some extra funds to draw from when you are looking to purchase new finishes and fixtures? Take stock of what you currently own and really consider what you can keep and reuse and what will just not be worth incorporating in your remodeling vision. The items that you are 'saying goodbye' to may bring in some extra cash that you can save for the larger ticket items that you are looking to purchase with cash instead of credit. Find a furniture consignment in your area and find out what is on their list of needs to see what you could make on old pieces.

Demo and DIY what you can (especially paint)
When talking with contractors who are assisting with larger projects - find out what you can do to prep the space for the changes, that could also save you money. Can you pull out existing cabinetry, or tear down old wallpaper or prep floors for refinishing? Painting, may or may not be your favorite activity, but a little bit of extra sweat and manual labor can save some extra cash that adds up in the end, as well.

Repurpose items that are salvageable
If you are a lover of antiques and pieces that have character - this tip is for you. Perhaps you have a desk, side table or end table that is a favorite but has been 'well loved' and 'well used' over time, that you could easily strip and repaint to fit your new color pallet and style needs... if you aren't sure the first thing about salvaging furniture - there are plenty of YouTube Do It Yourself videos that can teach you things from fixing to finishing those pieces that you just aren't ready to part with... (and if you totally mess it up - at least you didn't spend loads of money on it, right?!)

Shop outlets and keep an eye on sales
If you are anything like me, it's likely that you have been thinking about this project for a while.. before the project begins, watch different vendors, outlets and commercial ads to see what you can find as a result of "deep summer mark downs" over the next few months - Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day are all big 'sales' opportunities for household items (including, but not limited to appliances and bedding)!

Start working with a Designer early on
Pro Tip: work with a designer.. He/she can help you to stay within your budget and get the look that you are craving, without all of the mishaps and mistakes that can drive up cost and your heart rate! If you are someone who finds themselves making multiple trips to Lowes to pick new paint colors or returning the drapes that you purchased by mistake, this could be the most important tip of all!
