Of all the tasks and questions about design that there are, this one is my favorite! I think this is where you can be unique and add color or "reel it in" and play it safe if you are looking to prepare to put your home on the market. The Backsplash can have such a dramatic impact on your space.. but - there are some things to consider when choosing the best!

1. Cost - a budget can help you determine how many tiles you need to cover the priority spaces AND the type of tiles you can afford..
2. Material - knowing the type of tile you like and how it compliments your style, can also help make your decision easier as well (metallic and glossy give a more luxurious look, while brick and stone give a more rustic look).

3. Shape - subway tiles are timeless and never go out of style, but a hexagon, weave or chevron shape can help you add your personality to each space but its important to remember that bold patterns can date a space quickly and changing tile can be costly.
4. Color - light colors make a room feel larger and more spacious, darker colors make s room feel more cozy.. while neutrals with pops of color can draw the eye to the show moments in the room. Cohesiveness is another point of consideration - countertops, flooring, paint and tile should all play off of one another to create a fluid, cohesive design.

5. How high do you go? - two options emerge here: from the countertop to the cabinet for a budget friendly update, or, from the countertop to the ceiling for more of a statement
