Perhaps you have an awareness of fashion and the current OVERALL interior design styles that are popular (if you don't - sign up for my monthly newsletter - I JUST sent out a list of those) but are you keen on the current interior design TRENDS?
No? Well, you are in luck.. I have just gathered a few of the current interior design trends and I am about to let you in on a little secret to incorporating them into your home today.
1. Natural materials: There is a growing interest in natural materials like wood, stone, and leather. These materials add warmth and texture to a space, and they can also create a connection with nature. A simple way to use these types of materials today is to shop for pillows, blankets, or even a new paint color that helps to calm your space down and bring the colors you find outside - in!

2. Biophilic design: Biophilic design is the practice of incorporating natural elements into interior design. This trend is all about creating a connection with nature by bringing in elements like plants, natural light, and water features. If you watch any home renovation shows - you may have noticed - designers don't add window treatments to the main living area windows.. not willing to be so bold? Use light sheers or layer a roman shade with white drapes to create a more biophilic surround for your light source.
3. Bold colors: Bold, saturated colors are becoming increasingly popular in interior design. From deep blues to rich greens and bold yellows, these colors can add drama and personality to a space. Using these colors in a wallpaper, in paint on a feature wall or, even on the wooden molding and paneling throughout your home, will be a move towards the bold color interior design trend.

4. Sustainable design: There is a growing awareness of the impact that interior design can have on the environment. Sustainable design practices like using eco-friendly materials, incorporating energy-efficient lighting, and designing for longevity are becoming more popular. Do your kitchen and bathroom cabinets still have "good bones"? Just reface them or add on to them to move towards the style you want, without breaking the bank OR adding useable design elements to our landfills.
5. Maximalism: Maximalism is the opposite of minimalism. This trend is all about bold patterns, bright colors, and eclectic decor. It's a fun and playful style that encourages creativity and self-expression. JUST remember - if you ever plan to move - you may be looking at needing to reverse everything you do to stage, style and sell your home..

6. Japandi: Japandi is a hybrid design style that combines Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian design. This trend is characterized by clean lines, neutral colors, and a focus on natural materials. Ah... perhaps this minimalist style is one that is most easily attained.. by cutting down to just what you need in the space.. puring all of the 'extras' and focusing on the relaxing into the idea that 'less is more' when you don't have 'things' to weigh you down.
7. Vintage and retro: Vintage and retro decor is making a comeback. From mid-century modern furniture to vintage textiles and decor, this trend is all about celebrating the past while creating a unique and personalized space. Incorporating this style is also easy to do today - clearing out areas of chachkies and other miscellaneous items will immediately help you to attain the foundationally minimalist look that is mid-century modern style!

The key is to find a style that speaks to you and incorporate pieces (or remove items) around your home in a way that feels authentic and true to your personality and lifestyle.
